Book nook: From the Beginning: God’s Salvation Plan

book From the beginning: god's salvation planFamily devotion time is such a blessing! The challenge comes in finding a study that captures interest while still deepening understanding of God’s precious Word. From the Beginning: God’s Salvation Plan has done just that for my family (including parents, teenagers, and college-age adults). Written by a family of pastors, Joel, John, and Michael Seifert, this devotion book is an excellent resource for individuals and families.

From the Beginning: God’s Salvation Plan is the first in a series of devotion books referencing The People’s Bible series. It contains devotions based on the first five books of the Bible, taking you from creation to the point when Joshua was ready to lead God’s people into the Promised Land. Each devotion begins with a Bible reading, usually about a chapter long. The devotion then focuses on a few verses from the chapter. After a prayer, pages from the corresponding People’s Bible are listed for further reading and background. The authors emphasize how God’s faithfulness overcomes our unfaithfulness, securing salvation and a home in heaven for all believers.

My family thoroughly enjoys this devotion book. The authors present thoughtful devotions that delve deeply into Scripture. The writing is clear and works well when read aloud. We often find that the devotions cause us to think about familiar Bible stories in a new and interesting way, leading to valuable discussion. I have been pulling out the corresponding People’s Bible to gain more background information and to answer questions that arise.

I recommend this book to individuals and families, especially those with older children. You will learn and grow, as you ponder God’s faithfulness to his family of believers.
