“Who Do You Say I Am?” Answers Right from Jesus by John A. Braun is a new devotional focusing on the last year Jesus spent on this earth. As Braun notes in his introduction, Jesus’ last year on earth is often viewed as the “year of opposition.” Instead of viewing it this way, Braun chose to take another approach, viewing it as the “year of defense,” when Jesus shows who he really is as he speaks the truth boldly and teaches us to do likewise.
These 60 devotions are solidly Christ focused. Readers will appreciate the large portions of Scripture, giving them a full picture of the context. Braun explains what is happening to Jesus in each devotion as well as what this means for the lives of believers here on earth. These devotions dive deep and left me feeling not only strengthened for my everyday life of faith but also armed with a better understanding of Jesus and his time here on earth. Other Scripture references are woven throughout the devotions, helping the reader truly understand the interconnectedness of Scripture and the events of the life of Jesus. Each devotion then concludes with a prayer.
Readers will appreciate taking a closer look at both the familiar parts of the life of Jesus as well as those that may not get as much focus. The devotions are suitable for personal study and also would work well as a Bible study for families with older children. The rich blessing of Scripture and the deeper understanding of who Jesus is can be appreciated by Christians at many different stages of life.
