WELS DISCIPLESHIP

WELS Discipleship has produced a new marriage enrichment series called “Speak to My Heart.” In this video-based study, Dr. Prof. Mark Paustian leads couples through a five-session, Scripture-focused, discussion-based Bible study. Spouses experience how God speaks to their hearts so that they in turn can speak to the heart of one another.

Congregations can use the series as the basis for a marriage retreat, or couples can use the online videos for individual study in their homes. Find the study at welscongregationalservices.net/speak-to-my-heart.

WELS WORLD MISSIONS

Twenty-seven women from WELS mission fields around the world gathered in Lisbon, Portugal, in March for the Missionary Wives Conference. Under the theme “Rest,” the conference included worship, devotions, Bible studies, and free time for fellowship. “I appreciate that while we all come from vastly different areas of life and ministries, we can still come together as sisters and relate to one another with our different experiences,” says Maddie Vilhauer, whose husband, Missionary Jake Vilhauer, recently began his work with French-speakers in Africa. “These retreats are a wonderful opportunity to reset and refresh both spiritually and emotionally.” Started in 2017, this conference occurs once every three years. In between the conferences, missionary wives continue to support and encourage one another in monthly Zoom meetings.

Short-term medical camp in Chabera, Kenya

Working closely with the leadership and volunteers from the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ–Kenya (LCMC), the Central Africa Medical Mission (CAMM) organized a short-term medical camp in Chabera, Kenya, in February. Six WELS volunteers, along with CAMM’s Executive Director Kate Wood and retiring Field Director Gary Evans, partnered with the Kenyan Health District in CAMM’s third pop-up medical camp in Kenya.

This first medical camp in the underserved Chabera area drew just shy of 2,400 children, women, and men in five days for free medical services, medical screening, and medication. Besides needed physical care, every patient received a gospel-based welcome, a printed booklet to take home, and often, individualized prayer. Read more about the camp at wels.net/welcome-to-kenya.
