Conference of Presidents

To represent the lay membership of the synod more accurately, two laymen from each synod convention floor committee will attend the WELS 66th biennial convention in person, along with committee chairmen and secretaries. The convention, being held July 26-28 at Luther Preparatory School, Watertown, Wis., will be a mini convention, in which about 75 voting delegates will attend in person with the rest attending virtually through a livestream. In-person delegates will be authorized by their floor committees to vote on behalf of those who will not attend in person. Videoconference floor committee meetings and electronic voting will happen prior to the convention. Access convention resources, including a list of delegates and election information, at wels.net/2021synodconvention.

Commission on Inter-Church Relations

The Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) triennial convention will be held virtually this year, with sessions scheduled for two hours each Tuesday and Thursday between May 25 and June 10. The CELC serves as a forum for confessional Lutherans around the world. Representatives from 32 member churches worldwide (including WELS) will participate in business meetings as well as hear and discuss four essays at the convention. All convention sessions will also be livestreamed. This convention was supposed to take place in Seoul, South Korea, in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19. The next in-person convention will be in Seoul in 2023. For specific event dates and times as well as livestream information, visit celc.info.
