Book nook: Why God Made Dads

Why God Made Dads by Emily Krill is a great picture book that helps kids understand God’s love through the everyday presence of their dads. The story starts by pointing kids to all the things God has created and then shows how dads help children explore, enjoy, and feel safe in that world. Along the way, it connects a daddy’s care with God’s care, using simple language even toddlers can understand.

why god made dads bookI read this book with my almost three-year-old daughter, and she was hooked right away. From the very first pages, she was listening, pointing, and chiming in about what she saw. The language is lively without feeling over the top, which made it easy to read expressively and keep her attention. The message was simple enough for her to follow but still meaningful.

The illustrations really shine, pulling kids into the story and getting them talking. My toddler had something to say about almost every picture, which made her bedtime story way more fun for both of us.

What I appreciated most was how naturally the book connected a child’s everyday experience with a bigger truth about God. The way it reflects God’s love in a dad’s love for their kids felt natural, reassuring, and easy for young kids to understand.

Why God Made Dads is a great pick for bedtime or a family devotion, and I especially look forward to sharing it as a Father’s Day gift. It’s such a sweet way to celebrate dads here on earth, while pointing children to the even greater love of their heavenly Father!
