Featuring: Let the Bird Fly!

Hosts: Wade Johnston and Mike Berg

Description: “A podcast about living freely in a world given back to us. When we see the world for what it is and offers (and what it doesn’t), and when we live baptismally, we are freed to enjoy the things around us and the life of the mind for what it is: a gift!”

A taste of previous topics: On Being Single and Christian, Brewing and the Reformation, Preaching on Social Issues

Length: Usually just over an hour

Some thoughts: If you are looking for a truly Lutheran podcast, Let the Bird Fly! certainly fits the bill—and not just because beer brewing is featured prominently in a recent episode. Wade Johnston and Mike Berg, two pastors who serve as theology professors at Wisconsin Lutheran College, Milwaukee, Wis., usually lead the discussions that take place on the podcast. Often a guest will join them. Each episode begins with introductions and a segment they label “free-for-all.” Although the entire podcast is structured as a laid-back discussion among friends, the beginning of each episode is very casual, and the “free-for-all” questions tend to be on a relatable topic—“What would you choose to eat as your last meal?” The main discussion is usually on a more serious (often Lutheran-centered) topic, although the style of discussion is still one of a group of friends chatting.
