Synodical Council

Six new members joined the WELS Synodical Council: Mr. Pete Aisbet (Southeastern Wisconsin District lay representative), Mr. Jake Lemke (Western Wisconsin District lay representative), Mr. Chip Woods (Nebraska District lay representative), Pastor Mark Gabb (chairman of the Board for Home Missions), Mr. Tom Plitzuweit (teacher-at-large), and advisory member Mr. Kyle Egan (WELS’ chief financial officer). The Synodical Council is responsible for managing the activities of the synod that are determined by the synod in convention, including overseeing and evaluating all programs of ministry carried out by the synod. Each district is represented on the council by a laymember.

WELS Missions

The WELS Missions team has added three mission counselors to support the work of home missionaries, mission congregations, and campus ministries across North America.

Neil Birkholz is serving as the WELS Asian Ministry consultant for WELS Joint Missions. In this newly created role, Birkholz assists North American congregations in designing and implementing outreach programs to reach their Asian community members. Another key part of his work is equipping international high school and university students to share the gospel when they return to their home countries.

Dan Lindner accepted the call as the campus ministry mission counselor, a new position that will work to support and strengthen existing campus ministries while also helping congregations start and maintain active campus ministry programs.

Wayne Uhlhorn is a new home mission counselor, joining three others who evaluate and develop new home mission locations as well as assist existing home mission congregations.
