As God’s children, we are hidden under the robe of Christ’s perfection.
The rain poured down in buckets with no sign of letting up. The boy and his father waited in the store entrance. Through the pelting water droplets, they could see the minivan, but it looked like it was miles away. A quick check on the smartphone’s weather app revealed that the rain was just beginning and the storm was likely to get much worse.
They considered their options:
Option 1: Wheel the cart of groceries back into the store and be late for a party.
Option 2: Brave the elements. The father didn’t mind the rain, but his four-year-old was afraid of storms.
The father had a moment of brilliance. He tucked his son’s head under his shirt, hoisted the bag of groceries into his hands, and went out into the rain. The little boy giggled because he could hear the rain but couldn’t feel it touching his head. What looked silly to many watching proved to be successful in getting the boy to safety.
“You died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
We are caught in the storm of our sins; however, when Christ died, we died with him. His death is our death, and our debt is paid in full. “You died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).
No matter how “silly” that first Good Friday looks to people who do not understand the love of God, our heavenly Father safely tucks us in his arms. As God’s children, we are hidden under the robe of Christ’s perfection. We have no reason to be afraid of things that can hurt us spiritually.
And when it comes to the storms of life, it’s okay to giggle like a child because you are safe in Christ’s protecting love.
