In April, Grow in Grace, the institute for continuing education at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary (WLS), Mequon, Wis., hosted about 200 people in San Antonio, Texas, for a Celebration of Ministry retreat for pastors celebrating 3, 10, 25, and 35 years since graduating from the seminary. These retreats for pastors and their wives build relationships with ministry peers and offer encouragement through worship, Bible studies, workshops, and presentations. Pictured are members of WLS’ class of 2013 and their wives.

WELS Missions

women at dinnerTwenty-three missionary wives from five continents traveled to Thessaloniki in March for the third triennial World Missionary Wives Conference. Attendees ranged from grandmothers to new mothers, from those serving in mission fields for several decades to just a few weeks. “New acquaintances were chatting like old friends, sharing joys and challenges of the mission field with people who know what it’s like,” says Mindy Holtz, a world missionary wife on the Native America mission team. The third-grade class at Wisconsin Lutheran School, Racine, Wis., and the seventh and eighth-grade class at Ascension, Sarasota, Fla., won the Taste of Missions School challenge, complete with a Taste of Missions party. Twenty-nine Lutheran elementary schools (including students from Peace, Sun Prairie, Wis., pictured) participated in the challenge this spring, taking part in activities such as word searches, crossword puzzles, trivia, prayer challenges, and Moments with Missionaries videos. Taste of Missions, an event sponsored by WELS Missions for learning about Home and World Missions and sampling ethnic cuisine, takes place June 10 in-person at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wis., and online at tasteofmissions.com.
