New WELS hymnal unveiled

On January 22, Adam Mueller, director of the Hymnal Introduction Program, unveiled the new hymnal at the WELS National Conference on Lutheran Leadership. Titled Christian Worship, the new hymnal will include more than 600 hymns, including more than 400 from Christian Worship (1993) and Christian Worship: Supplement. After years of extensive research and surveying by the committees that worked on the WELS Hymnal Project, the hymnal will also include some popular modern hymns as well as old hymn texts paired with new tunes. When the hymnal is released in late 2021, it will include a comprehensive set of resources for worship planners and musicians. In addition, resources will be available for families to use the hymnal in their homes.

Mueller wrote an article for the February issue of Forward in Christ titled Much more than hymns that explains how the new Christian Worship will help people plan worship, sing, and grow in their Christian faith.

Other hymnal articles

Adam Mueller's article, Much more than hymns, is the final in a three-part series about the new hymnal. Michael Schultz, director of the WELS Hymnal Project, wrote the first article in the series, which gives insights into the project. Aaron Christie, chairman of the Hymnody Committee, wrote the second article that details more about the hymn selection in the new Christian Worship. Read Part 1 and Part 2 of For the Lord's glory.
