Christian fellowship a highlight of 2023 synod convention

WELS' 67th Biennial Synod Convention is being held this week, July 31–Aug. 3, at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw, Mich., under the theme “Embrace the Cross—Anticipate the Crown.” Highlighted here are photos from the convention. More about these photos: 1) Synod convention opened with worship at St. Paul, Saginaw, on the evening of July 31. 2) WELS President Mark Schroeder served as presiding minister and First Vice President James Huebner as preacher at the convention's opening worship service. 3) Three hundred forty-eight delegates including pastors, teachers, staff ministers, and laymen are gathering together to learn about the mission and ministry work of WELS and to determine the course of that work for the future. 4) The Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society’s flag presentation provided an overview of WELS’ mission partners from 45 countries and prospective mission fields in 18 countries. 5) WELS President Mark Schroeder greets Rev.
