Nathan Nass, pastor at Christ the King, Tulsa, Okla., joins Forward in Christ as a contributing editor this month.
A 2013 graduate from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wis., Nass served parishes in Minnesota and Wisconsin before making the move to Oklahoma in June 2021.
He and his wife, Emily, met at Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minn., and have been married for 13 years. They are blessed with four children: Isaiah, 10; Samuel, 6; Josiah, 4; and Faith, 1. The family enjoys spending time together outside, playing sports, and getting to know their new city, Tulsa.
Besides writing for the magazine, Nass currently authors a blog, Upside-Down Savior. He explains how he came up with this name: “I thought about how Jesus really does things in a way that seems so upside down. Like grace—God shows love to those who don’t deserve it. Even Jesus himself—it’s God who died on the cross and not us who deserve to die. From that, I thought of the phrase ‘upside down Savior.’ ”
Personal devotional time influences his writing process: “When I write, it usually comes from personal Bible reading and verses that jump out at me. Then I think of ways to share that with other people.” He says he tries to find topics that are “practical—that are related to what’s happening in our lives and our world” and then apply God’s Word to those topics.
“I like to point out that God’s Word reminds us over and over again that life is difficult and full of trials,” Nass says. “Being a Christian doesn’t mean that we don’t have those trials, but we can find peace in Jesus.”
